Climate Policy Advisor - Government Office for Science
Job description
Are you passionate about tackling climate change in the heart of Government? Do you want to improve how Government approaches these issues through science and expertise?
The Climate, Energy and Environment Team is an exciting and dynamic team, working on the Government Chief Scientific Advisor (GCSA)’s key priorities ensuring science and innovation is at the heart of cross government policies on net zero, climate and the environment.
This is a great opportunity to see the breadth of work happening across government on climate, net zero and environment policies and science. You will get the chance to lead engagement with multiple departments, National Academies, UKRI, industry and academia to bring together cross-cutting science and evidence. The role bridges between science and policy, ensuring a joined-up approach is being taken across Government and ensuring science and evidence is cutting through to policy.
The role also includes responding to fast-paced commissions from the GCSA and supporting her in her national and international relations.
Recent and upcoming projects include:
Developing Net Zero ‘technology roadmaps’ to identify the Government’s critical research and development (R&D) priorities for net zero.
The development of the Government’s Climate Adaptation Research and Innovation Framework to inform the UK’s R&D agenda for climate adaptation.
Supporting GCSA to raise the profile of climate adaptation across Government.
Bringing social science evidence into net zero policymaking through expert roundtables and building a cross-Government community of practice.
