The Big Butterfly Count is a UK-wide citizen science project run by Butterfly Conservation. By spending just 15 minutes counting butterflies and day-flying moths, you can help scientists monitor biodiversity, track environmental change and build evidence about the health of our natural world.

Whether you're in a garden, park, woodland or other green space, every count matters. Even recording zero sightings provides valuable data.

Role: Volunteer Coordinator – Canal & River Trust (Midlands) 💦

Key responsibilities

• Co‑manage and coordinate Civil Service volunteering days with the Canal & River Trust (typically two sessions per month in the Midlands) with one other coordinator.

• Support promotion of volunteer opportunities across a wide range of Civil Service departments and across CSCEN, working with departmental volunteering leads.

• Help maintain a consolidated list of volunteers per session, including numbers and contact details.

• Act as a point of contact for interested volunteers, sharing available dates and responding to queries.

A group of Cornwall-based civil/public servants will be helping out Cornwall Council with some practical work on wildlife planting maintenance on a site in Bodmin on Wednesday 29th July. Please email caitlin.ballard@communities.gov.uk if you'd like to join us! ☺️💚🌊
