MHCLG's CSA office would like to invite you to a seminar they are hosting on the topic of Planning for Net Zero
Planning for Net Zero, Tues April 1 15.00-16.00 (online)
In this fifth seminar in our MHCLG 2025 Science Seminar series, our speakers, Professors Rebecca Willis and Ying Jin, will explore the vital role of planning policy in the net zero transition.
Topics discussed will include:
opportunities for emissions saving in housing, urban planning and industrial development
changes to guidance, policy and legislation relevant to planning objectives and climate outcomes
transforming cities and towns into zero carbon, low environmental impact and equitable communities, through urban planning and design
These discussions will draw upon:
Academic research focusing on the Cumbrian coal mine as a case study
Academic research into land use planning for sustainable transport in suburban and exurban areas
About the speakers:
Rebecca Willis is a Professor of Energy and Climate Governance at Lancaster University, where her research focuses on the relationship between the citizen and state in climate governance. She is also an expert adviser to the Climate Change Committee.
Ying Jin is Professor of Architecture and Urbanism at Dept of Architecture, University of Cambridge, where he leads the Cities and Infrastructure Research Group. He previously worked for WSP and gained over 15 years advising the UK government, the EU and the World Bank
