Health equity: Sir Michael Marmot in conversation with Dame Angela McLean

Join Sir Michael Marmot and Professor Dame Angela McLean to explore the challenges around achieving greater health equity in the UK, and how societal factors such as deprivation, social disadvantage and racism contribute to widening health inequalities. The speakers will discuss how social and behavioural science can support the development of policy solutions for securing better health outcomes, before opening the session to Q&A. 


Sir Michael Marmot is Professor of Epidemiology at University College London and Director of the UCL Institute of Health Equity. He is a Distinguished Visiting Professor at Chinese University of Hong Kong (2019-) and co-Director of the of the CUHK Institute of Health Equity. He has led research groups on health inequalities for nearly 50 years.   


Professor Dame Angela McLean is the Government Chief Scientific Adviser and Head of the Government Science and Engineering Profession. She was previously Chief Scientific Adviser to the Ministry of Defence. Angela’s research interests lie in the use of mathematical models to aid our understanding of the evolution and spread of infectious agents.
